The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Sub Special Interest Group (AI/ML SubSIG) of the ISoP–ASA Statistics and Pharmacometrics (SxP) SIG was established to promote the development, application, and education of AI/ML methods in pharmacometrics. Its mission is to provide a collaborative forum that accelerates methodological innovation and facilitates integration of AI/ML approaches into drug development.
Current activities include regular brainstorming sessions to stimulate new ideas, future webinars and scientific sessions at major conferences, local AI/ML focused meetups to enhance networking among pharmacometricians and statisticians, and continuous updates to an internal AI/ML knowledge repository containing curated literature and training resources.
Since its launch in December 2023, the SubSIG has actively organized scientific content at international meetings. Highlights include a panel discussion at ACoP 2024 on the future impact of AI/ML across SIGs; a tutorial at ACoP 2025 focused on the use of machine learning for explanatory variable selection in exposure–response analyses; and an accepted proposal for the 2026 Joint Statistical Meeting (JSM) on Applications for Machine Learning in Pharmacometrics and Statistics.
Additional outreach and dissemination initiatives include the launch of AI/ML focused podcast sessions (1) and the establishment of a dedicated LinkedIn group to broaden engagement and facilitate community exchange. (2)
Overall, the AI/ML SxP SubSIG represents a growing collaborative effort to promote the effective use of AI/ML in drug development. The group welcomes participation from anyone interested in contributing to this mission, with or without ISoP membership. For inquiries, please contact:
