A Preview of NONMEM Version V

NONMEM version IV was released in 1992. Work on version V actually com- menced before that time. Version V incorporates methodological advances, but also improvements in terms of software reliability, speed, and ease of use. Attention has also been given to certain practical considerations which will be appreciated by users who are already comfortable using the system, e.g. there now exist (1) very generous limits on the number of parameters that may be used, and therefore, also generous limits on the number of interindividual random effects that may be used, and (2) an easy way to increase these limits further if necessary. Of course, the ability to successfully use many interindividual random effects depends on the ability to estimate their variance-covariance matrix from the data in hand, and also on the stability and speed of the computational algorithms in this situation; improvements of the algorithms in these respects have been made.

Some advances and improvements will be described.
